Marco’s Information
Last year Goose Lake became and impaired body of water. MPCA is in the process of helping us improve. We are monitoring 15 inlets around the lake. Right now we are in the “Data Collection” phase. We need helpers to monitor the sites. All of the work helps the association get more money to improve the lake.
We are in the process of finalizing our own Lake Management Plan. Then the association can receive $5,000 more. Marco is hoping to still meet once a month.
The money can be spent on many things and there are matching fund available if you want to help improve your lakeshore and how your yard or lawn impacts the entire lake. You can put up a rain garden, at least a 10’ (30 feet is ideal) buffer zone, or stop using chemicals to treat your lawns.
Buoy’s were placed on the channel to try to reduce people’s speed. Since we put them up ourselves they can’t be enforced but we are hoping it will slow some boats down.
Roger, the chief of fisheries completed some stocking in October 5 inch to 8 inch 9,000 pounds of walleyes.
Bullhead removal was completed for $2,500. Robar and Mandell 1,200 pounds of mature bullheads with 24 net settings. North Goose 10,000 pounds of small bullheads. One net setting on Big Goose with 200 pounds removed.
